Association serves independent office technology dealerships nationwide
Kansas City, Mo. Tom Ouellette, president and owner of Budget Document Technology, based in Lewiston, Maine, with a second office in Bangor, Maine, recently assumed the 2011-12 national presidency of the Business Technology Association (BTA; www.bta.org), a trade association headquartered in Kansas City, Mo. Ouellette previously served as president-elect and national vice president.
Founded in 1926, BTA provides educational programs, research, information, business development opportunities and various support services to independent office technology dealerships nationwide. As president, Ouellette will help oversee the programs and services of the organization for its 750 office technology dealership, manufacturer and supplier members nationwide.
“BTA has served as a valuable source of guidance for me through the years and so it is a privilege for me to give back to the association,” said Ouellette. “Given the ever-changing nature of office technology and the predominant role of independent dealerships in the distribution of office copiers and printers, this is an exciting time in our industry. I am looking forward to helping to further strengthen the dealer channel of distribution in the coming months.”
After receiving his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Ouellette went to work for an independent dealership as a service technician, working on typewriters and copiers. In 1989, he founded his current company in his garage as a single-man operation. Today, Budget Document Technology, a Konica Minolta, Kyocera Mita America and Samsung dealership, employs 21 people.
Founded in 1926, the Business Technology Association serves office technology dealerships, manufacturers, distributors and service companies. Its core members — office technology dealerships — sell and service hardware, software and supplies with the goal of helping businesses to be more efficient and save money. Through the association’s various educational programs, information, research, legal services, publications and guidance, BTA member dealerships are positioned to be the premier source of the office technology used by businesses throughout the United States every day.
